What is Therapy?

People come to therapy for a wide variety of reasons with the overarching theme that they need some help, support and perspective on their situation. Sometimes it can be difficult (impossible even), to see clearly what is happening around you and how you got there. I often find my clients have become either disconnected with themselves or hypervigilient, hyper aware and overwhelmed with their emotions.

This can manifest as anxiety, depression, low mood, irritability and a lack of direction.

It is not enough to know in a logical sense what has happened to you or why you may be struggling. You also need to work with your emotions, processing and dealing with how you feel in your body. This is where real change can occur
How I Work
I am a humanistic integrative therapist, which means I draw on a range of therapeutic models to suit the unique needs of each client. My approach recognises the deep connection between mind and body—what affects one inevitably influences the other. I work both psychologically and somatically, helping clients explore their thoughts, emotions, and bodily experiences. Through deep listening and guided support, I assist clients in working through areas where they feel mentally or physically stuck.
This can look like

Relational
The foundation of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. To create lasting change, you need to feel safe enough to explore the deep and difficult places that may arise. My first priority is relational working, which means taking the time to truly listen to your experience, valuing and accepting it without judgment or conditions. I strive to build a genuine connection by being fully present and authentic with you, offering both support and gentle challenge in an honest and compassionate way.
Mind-Body
Working with the mind may include making sense of your life story, uncovering and reshaping old belief systems, exploring your inner relationship with yourself, and reprocessing core memories—especially those linked to trauma.
Working with the body involves connecting with and processing unresolved emotions through physical experience. This may include increasing body awareness, incorporating breathing exercises and mindful movement, and using therapeutic approaches such as Gestalt, Experiential, and Emotion-Focused Therapy.
Resourcing
Resourcing provides practical tools to support you both in and outside of therapy. This may include breathing exercises, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping on key meridian points, and guided visualisations to create a sense of safety and connection with your inner child. Writing exercises, such as journal prompts or letters to yourself or loved ones, can also help process emotions and strengthen self-understanding.
Therapeutic Journey
Therapy is not a quick fix. True and long lasting change takes time. I work with deep routed issues both mentally and physically. This requires a strong relational approach for you to feel safe enough to reach these core issues. I tend to work with clients on a long term basis reviewing every 10 - 15 weeks to regularly check in with your initial goals for therapy and experience.
Therapeutic framework
I complete an initial free telephone consultation lasting 15-20 minutes
Thereafter, therapeutic sessions last 50 minutes, leaving 10 minutes for a debrief and scheduling of next session at the end. I schedule clients to regular weekly or bi-weekly slots depending on your need and presenting issues. Therapy takes consistent commitment and regularity of sessions is important to continue to improve your progress
Therapeutic fees and Availability
My fees for a 1-hour therapeutic session is £65
For 90 minute trauma focused therapeutic session £90
I offer both online sessions via Google Meet and face-to-face sessions (based in HU3, Hull and Willerby, HU10). Please feel free to contact me to discuss your specific therapeutic needs and how we can best work together.
